What to Expect at the Canadian Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls consists of three waterfalls shared by the United States and Canada. The Canadian Niagara Falls, also commonly called Horseshoe Falls, is located approximately ninety minutes from Ontario and has its own town, also called Niagara Falls. Tourists head to this area all year long, and it's easy to see why.

The first attraction is the waterfall itself. To get the best view of the majestic falls, go for a ride on the Maid of the Mist. This famous ferry docks in both the US and Canada and gives rides all day long, as it has since 1846. A trip to Niagara Falls is not complete without a tour on this boat! The even more adventurous of travelers may want to see Niagara Falls from above. If so, there are a variety of helicopter tours that take tourists on the sightseeing trip of a lifetime. Still others prefer to see the beauty of Niagara Falls from a scenic railroad route. There are also hiking expeditions that get you right in the middle of nature.

After you've seen the Falls up close, there's plenty more to experience back on land. Queen Victoria Park is a popular tourist draw and is the site of the Winter Festival of Lights. During the festival, more than 100 different light displays adorn Niagara Parkway. They include themes like Disney Enchantment and Twas the Night Before Christmas. Even when the festival isn't going on, you can still see the illumination of the park and the falls each and every night. As a matter of fact, Niagara Falls is as exciting after dark as it is during the day, and offers bars, lounges, dance clubs and even casinos. No matter what your idea of great nightlife is, you'll find it here!

For family oriented fun, head to Marineland. Here you and your family can interact up close with aquatic animals like amazing orcas and beluga whales. There's also great live entertainment, and an amusement park full of exciting rides that both kids and adults will love. Another must see for the whole family is the Skylon Tower, a man-made marvel that features an observation deck and revolving dining room. In the warmer months, the Botanical Gardens are a perfect place to spend an afternoon. No matter if you're a thrill-seeker or enjoy a more laid-back vacation, the Canadian Niagara Falls area has something for you.
