Golfing at Niagara Falls
![]() |
Yes, there is golfing near Niagara Falls. Obviously, there is no golfing at the falls, but after a day of looking at the falls, a day of shopping, someone in the family might want to play golf rather than going to the pool or waterslide. Some of the public courses are both challenging and inviting. During the peak seasons of the late spring, summer, and early fall, you should call ahead for tee times as these are the busiest times for the courses. Obviously, during the coldest times of the year, you should probably look for a ski resort rather than a golf club.
Some very nice public golf courses are the Beechwood Golf Club, the Eagle Valley Golf Club, the Niagara Falls Golf Club, the Oaklands Golf Club, Legends on the Niagara, and the Grand-Niagara River Course. A very nice semi-private course is the Willo-Dell Country Club. All of these courses are suitable for the superior golfer down to the beginner. If you are a tourist without golf clubs, most if not all of the clubs, will rent sets. If you are truly lucky, you might even visit during a tournament or exhibition. When the vacation begins to wane, you can’t beat a good game of golf.
The greens fees for each club varies considerable. If price is important, call ahead and ask for the price to play and the price of a golf cart unless you plan to walk. If you don’t want to play alone, and they probably won’t want you to, the golf pro will set you up with other golfers. You’ll have new friends before the second hole.
Another important piece of information you might want to ask about is the course dress code. Some clubs, especially British oriented ones, might not allow players to wear shorts. Certainly jeans are not allowed. Some clubs may require men to wear a collared shirt. To avoid embarrassment call ahead and ask what is permissible to wear on the course.
When you arrive at the nicer clubs, don’t be surprised if you have a caddy come up to your car door to get your clubs. He will take them for you, maybe even clean them, and get them ready for your cart. It is customary to tip these men as their pay is low and they depend on tips.
Then you pay and play. Some courses have time rules, so ask about this before you start playing. Especially during peak times, the courses can get backed up. That’s when tempers flair because golfers hate to wait for slow players. Allow others to play through if you are one of the slow pokes. Remember you are on vacation at Niagara Falls. What could be better than that? Playing golf at Niagara Falls.
