Niagara on the Lake
![]() |
Niagara on the Lake is the town Niagara Falls should be. Lovely, quaint, pristine, Niagara on the Lake is everyone’s dream town. It is brimming with wonderful shops, nice people, and excellent bakeries and restaurants. Niagara on the Lake is only a few miles from Niagara Falls and so worth the trip. My advice is to visit this small town before you go to Niagara Falls. Then you can pretend that this perfect little village is the real town of Niagara Falls.
The first view of the town all decorated for the holidays is quite beautiful. The only added decoration would be snow. A little snow would have made this town almost too pretty. The shops are quaint and very well maintained. One can easily tell that the people in this town really love it and have taken great pains to keep it from becoming a tourist trap. It is far from that; it is a shopper’s dream.
There are so many shops that the only decision that is difficult to make is which shop to enter first. There are high-end ladies shops with sweaters, resort wear, and hats. Many shops carry hats because the weather in Canada is so cold almost everyone wears a hat. Not only do they carry women’s hats but also men’s hats too.
There are many gift shops that carry very nice merchandise. Many of the gifts carry the Niagara Falls logo, but the mementos are quite nice. They are not the typical tourist junk you find in most vacation spots. Many people decide to simply window shop here and then buy in Niagara Falls. Not a good move. The good stuff is here and the prices are great. In the late fall and winter, you can get some really good deals.
Compared to the town of Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake is paradise. Spend all of your shopping time here; don’t waste much shopping time at the Falls. The gift shop there is nice but still not as wonderful as Niagara on the Lake. By the way the bakery is terrific with all home baked goodies. Niagara on the Lake should be the prototype for every tourist town in the world. If all the towns were like this one, the words tourist trap would no longer be necessary.
