Nighttime at Niagara Falls: What to Do After the Sun Goes Down
![]() |
While Niagara Falls is certainly spectacular in broad daylight, nighttime at Niagara Falls can be even more so. If you're heading to this beloved tourist destination, you're in for a real treat. Both Niagara Falls in Ontario and Niagara Falls in New York share ownership of the three incredible waterfalls, which include the American Falls, Horseshoe or Canadian Falls, and the Bridal Veil Falls. During the day, the falls can be enjoyed up close from the deck of the Maid of the Mist. But at night, there's a different way to behold the natural beauty.
After dark, the Canadian side of the falls are illuminated with lights that change colors. It's a whole new view of a beloved landmark that all ages will enjoy. If you visit Niagara Falls in the winter, you'll get to experience the Festival of Lights. This festival uses millions of lights and features over one hundred displays. The displays are set up along Niagara Parkway and feature themes such as wildlife, Disney and holiday. Some displays can be enjoyed from your vehicle, while others like Twas the Night Before Christmas should be seen up close. Both the falls and the Festival of Lights are free to enjoy, although donations are appreciated during the Festival. The money collected during this time goes towards making the displays bigger and better.
Other attractions that come alive after dark in Niagara Falls are the many clubs and bars that are open on both the New York and Canadian sides. These night spots cater to college students and tourists out for a good time. Because the drinking age is 19 in Canada, you'll find more students on that side of the Falls. On both the US and Canadian side, there are casinos which offer luxurious accommodations, fine dining, live entertainment, and of course, all your favorite casino games. These casinos sometimes offer fantastic vacation packages that can help you make the most of your Niagara trip at an affordable price.
Whether your idea of fun after dark is sightseeing, shopping, dining, gambling or dancing, nighttime at Niagara Falls will not disappoint. No matter what time of the day or night it is, Niagara Falls in both Canada and New York has something for everyone to enjoy!
